Volcano village cottages

Offering a more private and romantic retreat are six cottages set back into the rainforest. Each has a private entrance, sitting area, and on-suite bathroom. The cottages are all very different in style and design, some have full kitchens and can accommodate a family or friends traveling together, while others offer a very romantic escape for couples.

Nanue Falls

Nanue Falls is a cheery cottage with a private entrance, queen-sized bed, and small sitting area. The bathroom has a separate shower with a small step up, and pedestal sink. The door to this cottage has a leaded glass window looking out towards the extensive gardens. For couples traveling together, this is the perfect match with Onomea Falls, a twin cottage right next door.

Umauma Falls

Unauma Falls is one of our most private cottages, with a private entrance, this cottage sleeps two guests in a queen-sized bed. Dating back to the 1920’s and nestled under the Sugi trees (Japanese Red Cedar) behind the Dillingham House.

The cottage showcases an octagonal bedroom with a fireplace and kitchenette. The reading nook offers a quiet place to snuggle up with a good book or can be made into an additional sleeping area for a child. Guests love the privacy this cottage offers, as well as all the natural light from the leaded windows.

Akaka Falls

Akaka Falls is your own little private rainforest ohana. It is the perfect stay for families or friends traveling together as it comfortably sleeps, up to 5 people.

Once the gardener’s cottage Akaka Falls is the second oldest building on the property. This two-story cottage offers privacy and a lot of room. The first floor (ground level) features a fully furnished kitchen with a refrigerator, cooker with stovetop, eating area, and dishes. The large, covered lanai off the kitchen is the perfect place to sit and drink your morning coffee or have a glass of wine in the evening.

Pineapple Ohana

Pineapple Ohana is one of the most unique buildings on the property at Volcano Village Estates. This 77-year-old water structure has been recycled into a cozy bedroom with a queen-sized bed and sitting area.

Guests love the tiled bathroom with a whirlpool soaking tub and separate shower. Vintage lighting from the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, see-through fireplace, and mahogany wainscoting make this private retreat a favorite with honeymoon couples or guests enjoying a romantic escape.

“We stayed for several nights and found both the room and hostess to be both charming and accommodating. The location is ideal for access to Volcano National Park. In addition, the hostess, Pua, gave us a great restaurant recommendation for the Thai Thai Bistro. We ended up eating there both nights since there was not much else to choose from. The chirping frogs at night were not loud and did not keep us awake, and certainly added to the natural environment. Highly recommend this place.”
