Hilo Airport (ITO) is the closest airport and takes about 45 minutes. Turn left upon leaving Hilo airport onto Highway 11 (Hawaii Belt Road). Follow Highway 11 out of Hilo.

We are located just before the 27-mile marker on the left. When you see the big green Haunani road sign, put your left turn signal on and you will see a small street sign on the left, Hale Ohia Road

From Kailua-Kona

Kona Airport (KOA) is about a 2.5-hour drive from Volcano. There are two routes to the lodge from Kailua-Kona. Saddle Road is the fastest route taking about 2 hours. However is you want a more meandering and scenic route take Hwy 11 through Kailua-Kona and Captain Cook, following the signs to Hawaii Volcano National Park.

As you approach Volcano from Kona on Highway 11 put your right turn signal on when you see the 27-mile marker and turn right on Hale Ohia Road. The road is about 100 yards on the Hilo side of the 27 marker.

ANSWERS TO COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We are conveniently located less than 1 mile or 5 minutes from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

We highly recommend you rent a car from the airport prior to arrival. It is not difficult to drive in the area, our roads are not that busy. A taxi from the airport can cost more than $100. If you want to really explore the area and be able to get to enjoy the park, hikes, and restaurants you really need a rental car. View our Video on Renting a Car

We are 45 minutes from Hilo International Airport and 3 hours from Kona International Airport.

We are remote, and Volcano is a small town, so to get a taxi or an Uber usually means the driver has to come from Hilo, which means waiting about an hour or more for them to arrive. We can help you with tour guides and other transportation options in the area, just call us prior to your stay.

It is better to drive to the restaurants as the closest one is more than a mile away. Walking is an option in the daytime, but at night the streets are very dark and there are no sidewalks so we do not suggest walking at night.

“We stayed in Pele, what an amazing room! This is the first time I have stayed in this room with the full kitchen, two beds, and large sitting room. We were able to cook our own food, enjoy a glass of wine on the lanai in the evening and take care of work commitments with the fast reliable internet and peaceful quiet stay and then take off a hike in the park which is so close. Pua and the team are the best!”
